Richard Kiekbusch’s beloved wife, Linda, was treated for lung cancer at MD Anderson Cancer Center in 2009 — and the couple was impressed with every aspect of her treatment journey. Sadly, Linda passed away in 2020 from unrelated causes. To honor her memory, Richard designated his estate for cancer research within MD Anderson’s Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery department.

“My greatest hope is to put them out of business — that they’ll find cures, so people won’t have to receive the diagnosis Linda received,” he says.

“Whatever their goals are, those are my goals for giving.”

Richard’s bequest names MD Anderson the beneficiary of his bank accounts and IRA, as well as the retirement package and life insurance policy he receives as a professor at The University of Texas Permian Basin.

“This is an opportunity to have a positive impact on the lives of a lot of people, none of whom I will ever know. That’s how I try to live and how I’d like to go out,” he says.
